Bay Bells, a nonprofit handbell ensemble, was founded in 1986 to provide an opportunity for advanced ringers from around the Bay Area to participate in a community based activity that would educate as well as entertain. We exist because there is a need for a venue where handbell ringers can practice and perfect advanced technical and musical skills; where directors and ringers can refine their knowledge of technique and develop leadership roles; and where the community can experience the art of handbell ringing through outreach concerts and participatory workshops. Bay Bells supports other handbell ensembles by serving as an educational resource. This advancement and promotion of handbell ringing encourages the creation of new music specific to handbells.
